5 Tips for wearing the bohemian dress

Great classic of the feminine dressing and very trendy this season, the bohemian dress is everywhere at the moment, and especially in the closets of fashionistas! We give you some tips to choose and wear your bohemian dress well, just to be at the top this summer!

Tip 1: How to recognize a bohemian dress

The bohemian dress, a real must-have of the moment, can be recognized by the romantic and effortless look it gives to the wearer. Light and fluid, it flatters your curves without molding them and is always comfortable. This is the secret of the bohemian style: comfortable clothes and accessories that leave you free to move around but still remain very feminine. It is also important to choose nice materials for your bohemian dress, but we will come back to that!

Another element to take into account concerning the boho dress: its color and/or its prints. Traditionally, the bohemian style is inspired by the hippie movement and the psychedelic fashion of the 70’s, so we find a lot of floral, psyche and geometric prints.  You can find a beautiful boho dresses here ! The colors are rather neutral, and it is better to prefer natural colors such as white (the base), beige, sand, ecru, khaki, and brown or brown shades. So much for the main markers of the classic bohemian dress: fluidity, femininity, lightness and natural colors.

Tip #2: Choose your bohemian dress well

Now that you know how to recognize a bohemian dress at first glance, all you have to do is find yours! We give you some tips to choose the model of your bohemian dress.

The length
A bohemian dress can be short, long or even mid-length, and you should choose according to your taste of course, but also your morphology. If you are tall and thin, do not ask yourself too many questions, all lengths will suit you. On the other hand, if you are rather small, we advise you to avoid the mid-length boho dress, which tends to “break” the silhouette, and the maxi dress which risks to pack you. If you still fall for a long dress, make sure to opt for a length just above the ankle, and wear it with heels.

The cut
Portfolio, straight, trapeze … Honestly, all cuts can work for a bohemian dress, so you will have to choose according to your silhouette! Here are some guidelines to make the right choice:

The wrap cut
Crossed on the front, the wrap dress is ultra-feminine and particularly well suited to women with a marked waist. However, it should be avoided on generous breasts, as it may visually “enhance” them.

The straight cut
This is a cut that is rarely seen on bohemian dresses, but which can still be very pretty. It is also a perfect cut for most silhouettes, so do not deprive yourself!

The trapeze cut
A true symbol of the 60s, the trapeze cut lends itself particularly well to bohemian dresses. It is perfect for those with hips and/or a small belly!

The empire cut
Curved under the chest then flared on the belly and hips, the empire cut is very pretty on all body types. To be avoided if you have a large chest.

And all the others
There are a multitude of other possibilities for the cut of a bohemian dress, so do not hesitate to try several! We’re loving asymmetrical cuts right now, especially one-shoulder styles, which are perfect for a bohemian-chic look. The boat neckline, which reveals the shoulders, is also a great option to add a little sexy touch to your bohemian outfit.

What about the rest?
For everything else, like the sleeves or the neckline, there is no real rule.  It’s up to you to choose according to what you like, your body type and the occasion you want to wear your bohemian dress.

Tip #3: Choose the right fabric for your bohemian dress

As we said, a bohemian dress should be fluid and light, so you should choose materials that allow this kind of effect. Natural materials like cotton, especially poplin, silk or linen are very good options. Some synthetics like viscose, polyester or muslin can also work very well, provided they are of good enough quality.

Tip #4: Choose your accessories with a bohemian dress

As is often the case in matters of style, accessories are not to be neglected! And this is even more true concerning the bohemian dress. Depending on the accessories you choose, you can transform your boho dress into a bohemian-chic, bohemian-rock, boho-vintage, ethnic-bohemian look, etc. Moreover, if you do not want to invest in a multitude of bohemian dresses, we advise you to opt for a fairly simple model, and bet on accessories to give it some allure. Here are some ideas of accessories to mix with your bohemian dress:

A beautiful straw cape, perfect for summer wear
A pair of low top boots, ideal to give a touch of western trend to your bohemian dress
A camel or tan suede jacket, to play the bohemian card thoroughly
A pair of metallic wedge sandals, to wear for summer evenings
A small round wicker bag, the trendy and modern touch that a bohemian dress sometimes lacks
Silver or bronze jewelry, for the ethnic touch
A bag with bangs, ultra-trendy at the moment

Tip #5: Know which bohemian dress to wear according to the occasion

Last but not least, know how to choose your bohemian dress according to the occasion. If a long floral bohemian dress is perfect for a wedding, it is much less perfect for a Monday at the office! So be sure to keep the bohemian spirit of your dress in check, keeping it simple for formal occasions, and reserving the flowers and other bangs for more casual or festive outings.
