Four Common Mistakes Backpackers Can Make

Whether you are a seasoned or first-time backpacker, mistakes are something you may not be able to avoid. If you are new to backpacking, you might miss two things when planning or do things make you a great first-timer. Backpacker mistakes can be made even by the most experienced ones. But learning other backpackers’ mistakes can help you avoid or reduce your chances of making them yourself. These include:

Packing Like you are Not Going Home Ever

Packing too much can happen to any backpacker. You may end up bringing your entire closet or pantry and realize you don’t need half of what you have brought. However, remember that your body will have to carry all those loads. Imaging the long-distance hike and hurdles and how you will react to the challenges along the way while carrying such heavy loads. Make sure to just pack light when backpacking to walk comfortably with it. But this does not mean under-packing also. Just bring enough you need and carry comfortably.

Wearing the Wrong Backpack

Apart from your shoes, your backpack is your most essential piece of gear. Backpacks are not created equal. You can find them in varying shapes, styles, sizes, weights, colors, and brands for fashionable hikers. You don’t want to bring a backpack that can only carry 15 pounds and fill it with 40 pounds. Also, the right backpack has all the compartments, pockets and straps that suit your needs. Backpack CND Canada has a range of options for you to choose from.

Failing to Protect the Feet

A successful hike depends on the ability of your feet to take you to places. Make sure you protect them by wearing the proper hiking shoes considering the distance, terrain, and climate during your hike. You don’t want to waterproof shoes ona hot summer day. Also, ensure you wear the proper socks with your hiking shoes. Pay attention to the hot spots before a blister develops.

Going Out Uninsured

No hiker will ever hope to end up using insurance after a hike but it is better to have it to ensure your protection. Keep in mind that you will be doing outdoor activities in places not familiar to you. Things could happen and you could get scraped. A simple fall down a curb can already break your ankle. Being exposed to medical emergencies while hiking in the wild, make sure you buy insurance before you go.
